Spyware? Sounds a Little Paranoid, but Adware...  - or

Lavasoft's Free Ad-Aware SE Personal Reviewed

category: spamming, software

When it comes to the spyware, I don't think there's much out there between third party cookies and a hardware or software keyboard stroke recorder (only the Feds), except maybe the Google taskbar, which just doesn't scare me. Now, adware, that's a different story.

What is adware and how do you know if you have a problem? Well, one sure sign is if pop-up ads appear when you're not browsing the Internet. Another is when your system grinds to a halt and cries for more memory, right after a fresh boot and before you've started a single application.

That last was an extreme example, but I have seen systems running XP with 60 plus active processes, many with names like bargain.exe. The way to take out bargain.exe along with any other adware on your system, including third party cookies, is to visit Lavasoft and download their free Ad-Aware SE Personal.

Just double-click the self extracting download file, allow Ad-Aware SE Personal to download its most current database, and you're in business.
