Is it worth it - or
Disposable Email Addresses
category: spamming, trends
There are ups and downs to using disposable email addresses. A large part of the decision about whether using disposable email addresses is worth the hassle depends on how you use email and the internet.
If you use email primarily to communicate with a fairly closed circle, friends and family, then they probably aren't worth the time. If you use your email address when shopping online or registering on lots of web sites, then they may be worth it.
It also depends on how much spam bothers you. I have one email address that I use to register for reading material online and posting in bulletin boards. The same email address is also an easy to harvest link on a blog. I just did the math, estimating how much time I spend daily handling spam, multiplying and dividing accordingly, and I estimate I spend between one and two hours a month dealing with spam. Yes, my time is valuable, but not so valuable that I am thoroughly upset by a couple of hours a month.
